Abstract

This paper examines the evolving landscape of copyright law in the digital age, highlighting the challenges and adaptations necessitated by rapid technological advancements. It explores the historical evolution of copyright, tracing its origins from the Statute of Queen Anne in 1710 to contemporary complexities posed by digital technologies. The study discusses the impact of digital rights management (DRM), unauthorized distribution, and the concept of fair use on creators and consumers. It emphasizes the need for an updated legal framework that balances the rights of intellectual property holders with public access to creative works. Furthermore, the paper introduces the Creative Commons movement as an alternative model that facilitates sharing and collaboration in a digital environment. By analyzing international perspectives and responses to copyright challenges, the research underscores the diversity of copyright laws and practices worldwide. The findings advocate for comprehensive reforms that address the unique demands of the digital era while promoting innovation and protecting creators’ rights. Ultimately, the study calls for a collective effort to navigate the complexities of copyright in a globalized, digital context, ensuring equitable access to cultural and educational resources.
